LOCAL CHARITIES BENEFIT FROM COSEQUIN STUART HORSE TRIALS & CIC**

The Cosequin Stuart Horse Trials & CIC**, which takes place July 21-24, 2005 in Victor, NY, contributed $12,500 to charities in 2004. It will share its profits again this year to support local charities and develop the cross-country course as an equestrian educational facility. The event has donated $67,000 to charities since it began in 1990.

Proceeds from the 2004 event benefited: Western New York Region of the United States Pony Club, Mercy Flight Central, Victor-Farmington Volunteer Ambulance Corps, East Bloomfield Volunteer Ambulance, Richmond Emergency Squad, Genesee Valley Region of the National Ski Patrol, Humane Society at Lollypop Farm, Ontario County Humane Society, Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Everybody Rides, Upstate Guide Dogs, Heart of Gold Foundation and The National Fragile X Foundation.

Organizer, Wezo Pierson, said, “Many of these charities provide safety and security to spectators, competitors, and horses during the event and the rest are personal favorites of the organizing committee. We are proud to be associated with all of them and look forward to continuing support to them in 2005.”

The event which is now in its 16th year, attracts some 300 competitors from across the country and overseas to compete in five divisions—Novice, Training, Preliminary, Intermediate and CIC** (International) —which is also part of the USEA Gold Cup Series and offers a total purse of $7,500 as well as $50,000 worth of prizes.

  • The Cosequin Stuart Horse Trials, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.

  • The Cosequin Stuart Horse Trials & CIC** was first held in 1990 as a local event at the novice and training levels. It remains the highlight of local competitors' event schedule. However, with the addition of preliminary and intermediate courses, the trials attract top international level riders and their horses. The 2004 competition saw over 300 competitors representing 16 states as well as riders from Australia, Canada, Finland, and Scotland. Over the past fifteen years Stuart Horse Trials has hosted championships for Area 1 (New England and New York) and the region (Eastern United States). In 2001, SHT added two international divisions of Concours Internationale Combined (CIC** - Intermediate level) and CIC* - Preliminary level, which are qualifiers for Three-Day competitions and run under rules of the international governing body; Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI).

  • Eventing is the triathlon of equestrian sport. Developed from cavalry competitions held during the early 1900s, eventing is the ultimate challenge for horse and rider, testing their partnership and athletic prowess in three diverse and demanding disciplines: the grace and harmony of dressage; the rigors and thrills of cross-country jumping and the power and pageantry of show jumping.
